Nottinghamshire CCC On This Day by Dave Bracegirdle

When William Clarke married Mary Chapman, landlady of the Trent Bridge Inn, and decided to convert their meadow into the Trent Bridge cricket ground, he could have had little idea of what he was creating. Over 170 years later, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club can proudly reflect on a rich history that has brought success, trophies and a seemingly endless list of outstanding performers.

From 19th century professionals Alfred Shaw and Arthur Shrewsbury to the celebrated Gunn family - four of whom played for the county; from England's Harold Larwood and Bill Voce to overseas stars like Garry Sobers and Richard Hadlee; Notts have cherished a rich tradition of playing the game in the right manner, whilst striving to be as successful as they could. The modern -day club continues to produce outstanding cricketers of international standard, whilst the continued development of the ground would delight its 19th century founder.

Nottinghamshire CCC On This Day details the key events, biggest matches and the most significant players that have shaped the history of this illustrious county side, as well as incorporating statistics and facts from every day of the year. Fully endorsed by the club, this is a book that will delight casual observers as much as pure cricket devotees.
