Contributions from Nottinghamshire's Jenny Gunn and Danielle Wyatt moved England Women to within one victory of retaining the Women's Ashes thanks to a seven-wicket win over Australia in the first One Day International.

Gunn (1-30) and Wyatt (1-22) took a wicket apiece as Australia registered 209-3 from their 50 overs, Alex Blackwell high-scoring for the hosts with and unbeaten 82.

In reply, Charlotte Edwards scored well, dominating the strike on her way to 41, but her wicket was followed by the loss of Heather Knight and Sarah Taylor for nine apiece.

At 68-3, Australia had the momentum, but Lydia Greenway and Arran Brindle added 142 in 28 overs to see England past the total with 19 balls to spare.

This win gives England an 8-0 lead in the multi-format competition, with two ODIs and three Twenty20 matches still to play.
