Harry Gurney and Paul Franks have been named in the Nottinghamshire team to face Surrey in the LV= County Championship from Wednesday.
Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell was forced to make changes following the loss of Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann who are on England duty.
“Harry bowled well in the championship game against Derbyshire and only missed out against Durham as he had an injection in his ankle,” Newell said.
“We all know what Paul can do and he has been doing well in the seconds throughout the early part of the season. He also adds batting depth to the side, something that will help us in this game.”
Surrey are the travelling opponents for tomorrow, and, like Notts, they have endured some early-season frustration.
“Surrey haven’t had the best start but we know that they will be keen to get their season on track when they come here," said Newell.
“Having said that we need to be on good form as we know what they can do after they beat us at their place.”
Since the loss to Durham in the last outing in the LV= County Championship, Notts have enjoyed three straight wins in the Yorkshire Bank 40 and Newell is keen to harness that form.
“It is important for us to keep that winning momentum going from the three wins which we picked up," he said.
“The two formats are very different though and we need to bat with discipline in the coming four-day game and throughout the four-day format.
“We need to bat longer in the first innings to set up the game and that is where the discipline will be crucial."
