Notts Outlaws’ winning start to this season's Friends Life t20 was brought to an abrupt end by the Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road.

The hosts eased to their target of 159 with 14 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand.

Commenting on the defeat, Samit Patel said “this is a ground where we don't have a great record and if you don't turn up and play the cricket we can you get turned over.”

“Credit has to go to Leicester who played well but we didn't show up.

“We were about 30 runs short with the bat, we can sometimes get away with defending 158, but just not on that wicket.”

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat first by Foxes' captain Josh Cobb, the Outlaws openers Alex Hales (27) and Michael Lumb (23) eased to 19 without loss from the opening two overs.

Buoyed by his 96 against the Durham Dynamos last weekend, Lumb continued where he left off in the North East by depositing Anthony Ireland for two huge sixes and a clip off his hips for four in the third.

The introduction of Rob Taylor for the fifth saw the end of Michael Lumb for 23, skying the ball to Shiv Thakor at mid off.

Promoted up the order, three boundaries from Samit Patel (50) saw Mick Newell's side end the powerplay 58-1.

Alex Hales was the second wicket to fall, Niall O'Brien taking a sharp low catch off the bowling of Shakib-al-Hasan.

Samit Patel brought up his first t20 fifty of the season off 31 balls with a single off Thakor, with the 19 year old then cleaning up the former Worksop College pupil two balls later with a quicker delivery in the fourteenth.

Captain David Hussey (7) was the next to depart, with the Australian misjudging an attempted sweep off Josh Cobb and being bowled by his opposite number with the score on 123.

Shiv Thakor collected his second wicket in the sixteenth, Chris Read (0) caught behind by Niall O'Brien.

With scoring difficult off the Foxes' slow bowlers, the innings ended on 158-6 with Mullaney (16) bowled by Thakor off the final ball of the 20 overs.

Luke Fletcher marked his first t20 appearance of the summer with the wicket of Greg Smith (1) caught behind by Read.

The 24-year-old should have had two in the over, Michael Lumb putting down a difficult one handed chance off Josh Cobb at mid-on.

Steven Mullaney's first delivery brought the Outlaws their 2nd wicket, David Hussey taking the catch to dismiss fellow countryman Joe Burns for 26.

Graeme White collected wicket number 3, Niall O'Brien (14) stumped by Read in the tenth, before Jake Ball dropped the third chance of the innings, Josh Cobb put down on 45.

From there, Cobb (67) and Shakib (43) took control, with 17 coming off Patel's final over, including two 4's and one 6 to win by 7 wickets with 14 balls to spare.
