Mullaney Wary Of
Durham Threat

Match Preview | 6th July 2013

The Outlaws will face another team in scintillating white-ball form when they travel to Durham on Saturday.

The Dynamos are on top of their Yorkshire Bank 40 group and are currently well placed in the t20 format.

They have already provided a reminder of their t20 prowess with a blistering chase of 184 in 20.2 overs in their Championship game against Notts.

Steven Mullaney believes this will be a tough game for the in-form Outlaws before switching to the four-day format from Monday.

“Durham are a very dangerous side with world class players from one to eleven,” Mullaney said.

“It will be a tough test especially as it is away from home and on the back of the Derbyshire game.

“However, if we continue the brand of cricket we have been playing then I don’t think we will be far off.”

This game brings to an end the first portion of t20 matches for Notts as they return to LV=County Championship action against Surrey on Monday.

Mullaney realises the importance of this game in getting a firm standing in what will turn out to a competitive group.

“It was obviously nice that we won the first five in the YB40 and that stood us in good stead in that format," he said.

“It would be great to win the first four in the t20 to put us in a strong position for later on in the competition.

“Then coming back after the Surrey championship game, the same goals apply and that is to keep on winning.”

Form comes and goes throughout a season and it is vital for any club to hold on to it as long as possible and, of course, the Outlaws are no exception to this.

“It was obviously a big game against Derbyshire, who were also unbeaten, so winning that was a great boost.

“This has left us in a strong position for the Durham game and hopefully we can continue that momentum.

“Individually, I don’t really set myself goals I just want to continue doing my bit for the team in the field and when bowling.

“If I get the chance with the bat hopefully I can finish off some games or set up a decent total for us to defend.”

Despite a long portion of the season remaining, the form in the white-ball competitions has led to many questions of a possible title.

Mullaney is keen to not look to far ahead but reveals it is a goal that everyone in the team will strive for.

“I would like to think we have a chance in the white-ball competitions this year.

“If we win a couple more games in the YB40 we are in with a chance of a home semi-final and then we are one game away from Lord’s.

“Then hopefully if we keep results flowing we can get a home quarter-final in the t20.

“Games from there are all one-off chances and to get further in the tournament it is important to keep form going.”
