Nottinghamshire batsman James Taylor has been called up to England’s One Day International squad to face Ireland ahead of their ODI matches against Australia.

This follows his call-up to the England squad ahead of the third Investec Ashes Test at Old Trafford, the result of his excellent form in this season’s LV= County Championship.

The fixture against Ireland will take place on 3 September, which coincides with the first day of Nottinghamshire’s LV=CC match against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge.

“It’s another excellent opportunity for him,” said Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“We’re proud of our record of players developing and breaking into the England squad, and we’ll be watching his progress.

“It’s a blow to lose him for the start of the match against Warwickshire, but hopefully he’ll be able to join up with the squad and play his part in what is an incredibly important fixture.”

A separate squad was announced for the Natwest ODI series against Australia, and with Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad rested, there are no Nottinghamshire players included.

National selector Geoff Miller said: “Following a very intense period of cricket this summer we have decided to rest a number of senior players which will allow them to recover from a heavy workload over the last three months and to prepare for the tour of Australia which begins in eight weeks.

“This creates an excellent opportunity for players who have impressed in county cricket and for England Lions recently to test themselves at international level as we continue to build a squad ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup which is less than 18 months away.”
