On day one of Nottinghamshire's Second XI Championship match against Yorkshire at York Cricket Club, the hosts scored an imposing 335 for the loss of six wickets, three of which went to bowler Jake Ball.

Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat first, Eliot Callis and captain Will Rhodes opening proceedings.

On a pitch that seemed to offer some movement early on the home side struggled to score freely, the Nottinghamshire attack kept things tight, and Rhodes (7) fell to a catch by Paul Franks off Brett Hutton's bowling in the 10th over (14-1).

Keeper Daniel Hodgson joined Callis and the home side were just short of lunch when Callis (29) was trapped lbw by Jake Ball in the 35th over, lunch being taken with the score 81-2.

Alex Lees was the new man at the crease as the afternoon session began and he, along with Hodgson took the score to 112 when Ball had Hodgson was caught by keeper Matt Cross in the 47th over.

Andrew Hodd joined Lees, the latter reaching his fifty in the 63rd over, and they progressed to tea with the score on 223-3 after 72. Both batsmen pressed on after the break, Hodd reaching his fifty in the 73rd over and Lees getting his century in the 78th.

However, Jake Ball struck again in the next over, Lees (100) caught at midwicket by Sam Kelsall (259-4) to end the partnership of 147.

Richard Pyrah was next to the middle but Hodd took the majority of the strike and reached 93 before being run out by Jake Ball in the 84th over (287-5).

Oliver Robinson joined Pyrah and Yorkshire’s 300 came up in the 89th, but five overs George Bacon had Pyrah (19) caught by Cross (312-6) bringing Jack Leaning to the crease.

Robinson (23*) and Leaning (7*) played through the remaining overs of the day to close on 335-6, Jake Ball finished with 3-64 off 22 overs.
