Notts Academy 258-7 drew with WI Cavaliers 223-6
Academy 16pts Cavaliers 9pts

After last week's disappointing defeat to league leaders Clifton, the Academy bounced back with a good performance against second placed Cavaliers.

Winning the toss and batting first the home side posted a competitive score with Scott Elstone leading the way with an accomplished 95 from 116 balls.

He was well supported by Ollie Swann who made 53 at nearly a run a ball. Sam Kelsall started the innings well with 31 and Tom Rowe scored 20.

All the batsmen played the spin attack of Saqlain Mushtaq (3-68) and Usman Afzaal (3-75) with confidence and gave their somewhat limited bowling attack something to defend

The Notts bowlers responded well, keeping the visitors in check with accurate deliveries that kept the Cav’s well behind the run rate.

Sam wood deserves plaudits for a fine spell of bowling with 4-50 from 15 overs.

At one stage the Cavaliers were 144-6 with 12 overs remaining but as hard as they tried they could not dismiss Dominic Williamson (64) and Steve Atkinson (24) as the visitors ended 35 runs short.

Brett Hutton took 1-48, Andrew Parkin Coates 1-55 and George Bacon 0-62

This result leaves the Academy assured of third place in the league - a most credible performance in their second season at this level.
