Voges & Franks Shine
In Outlaws Win

Match Report | 25th May 2011

Scorecard

Solid knocks from Adam Voges and home debutant Riki Wessels helped Notts Outlaws to secure a 41-run victory over Gloucestershire Gladiators to improve their prospects of qualification from their Clydesdale Bank 40 group.

Notts will need to put a run together when the competition resumes in July if they are to avoid an early exit but they impressed in defending their total of 270.

Paul Franks was the leading light in the home attack with figures of 5-43 as he put Notts in firm control with two wickets in the 35th over from which Gloucestershire couldn’t recover.

“It was a good performance on a fantastic pitch and we executed our ball skills well after a solid batting effort.” said Franks.

“Gloucestershire kept coming at us and my mission was to keep it quiet and I bowled straight and full and hit when they missed.

“Riki impressed me and I knew what to expect from him having played with him in Zimbabwe. He is a quality player and he will offer a lot to us in the coming months.”

Akhil Patel was first to fall for Notts, caught behind by Jonathan Batty, but Riki Wessels (41) and Samit Patel (42) put on 88 for the second wicket.

Voges hit 7 fours in his 74 and shared a century partnership with Chris Read to put Notts in control.

The Gladiators made a bright start in their reply but Franks did the damage to remove any chance of a slip up. Gloucestershire were all out for 229 inside 37 overs.
