Player Of The Month
Hales Set For Surgery
On Broken Jaw

Featured News | 7th May 2011

Nottinghamshire batsman Alex Hales will undergo surgery this afternoon after suffering a broken jaw in the LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire.

Hales was struck on the helmet grill trying to pull an Ajmal Shahzad bouncer but returned to the field to complete his innings after first aid.

An x-ray revealed the damage yesterday evening to add to Nottinghamshire's injury concerns.

"Alex will have the operation today and we want to get him back in our side as soon as possible," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

"He has been in good form and we're disappointed that he will miss two important Championship matches."

Notts will include Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad in their team to face Sussex at Hove next week and their availability is a welcome boost with Charlie Shreck and Andre Adams carrying knocks.

Shreck has sat out the Yorkshire match with knee pain whilst Adams has a tricep injury. Darren Pattinson's hamstring strain is likely to keep him out for three weeks whilst Andy Carter faces another month on the sidelines with an abdominal strain.

Hales' early season form helped him to win the PKF player of the month award for April.
