Notts Premier League
Wollaton 166-9  (50overs) 2pts lost to Notts academy 170-0 (32.4 overs) 18pts by 10 wkts

The Academy completely overwhelmed Wollaton to ruin Gerry McMahon’s final appearance for the home side as he bowed out of the game after many years of loyal service.

Notts made an excellent start as George Bacon and Bobby Gamble reduced Wollaton to 32-5 by the 14th over. The pitch seemed to be variable in bounce & the home batsmen were unsure whether to play back or forward.

Tim Young and James Goldrich tried to restore the initiative in a stand of 86 for the sixth wicket but Sam Wood dismissed Young for 52 after a fine tumbling catch by Andrew parkin-Coates at mid off. Wood also had Owen smartly stumped by Matthew Cross and Goldrich caught by Scott Elstone for 59.

The Academy, who lost a point for slow over rate last week, ensured no such penalty by bowling their overs with more than 40 minutes to spare.

Tom Rowe and Sam Kelsall gave a perfect example of how to bat as an opening pair by establishing themselves and then attacking where necessary.

Rowe was fluent in his driving using his feet excellently to drive the slow bowlers and was not afraid to hook the short ball.

Sam Kelsall was assured in steering the ball through the gaps and taking regular  singles.

The target was reached in the 33rd over with Rowe contributing 77 from 105 balls with two sixes and ten fours. Kelsall finished on 58 not out from 95 balls with five boundaries.
