Scorecard

Nottinghamshire slipped to a 3-day defeat by 174 runs to the MCC in their first class fixture in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

In an eventful final day they managed to pick up the final four MCC wickets during the opening eighty minutes of the day but then lost all ten of their own, with the hosts claiming the extra half hour at the end of the day and winning the match when Paul Franks was last out, adjudged lbw to Hamid Hasan for a gutsy 73.

Luke Fletcher picked up two more wickets during the first session, to give him four for the innings and eight for the match. Franks and Samit Patel each took one of the remaining wickets with Patel getting the final wicket, that of Rahul Dravid who was beaten by the flight and bowled for a splendid 106, his 63rd career century.

Set a nominal 468 to win Notts lost the top four batsmen in their order for 21 – Edwards 1, Wagh 4, Hales 8 and Patel 5 all falling for single figures.

The next four batters each profited though and made half centuries. Chris Read (51) and Ali Brown (55) added 11 for the fifth wicket and then Franks (73) and Steven Mullaney (62) put on 130 for the 7th.

Luke Fletcher made 26 but then fell with just two deliveries of the day scheduled, prompting the MCC to request the extra time.

Brett Hutton failed to score second time around and Jake Ball was 0 not out at the end.

Notts will now turn their attention to the Twenty20 format and spend a couple of days practising before they head to Dubai on Friday to take part in the Emirates One Day tournament there, alongside Durham, Sussex and the MCC side which will feature former Indian Test captain Saurav Ganguly in place of Dravid.
