Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell must decide who to leave out of the side that will face Somerset at Trent Bridge following the return of Stuart Broad.
Broad was left out of the England team that beat Sri Lanka at Old Trafford to secure a 3-2 NatWest Series victory and returns to Trent Bridge hoping to do enough to secure inclusion in the side to face India in the forthcoming npower Test series.
"A nice bi-product of him missing the game at Old Trafford is that he will have a four-day break from bowling between the fourth one-day international that he played and the four-day game that he will play for Nottinghamshire," said England Team Director Andy Flower.
"After that, he can have another four-day break to rest those niggles and then get into training for the Test match at Lord's. Broad's been a superb performer for us, a great competitor - and I foresee him doing great things for us in the future, both in this upcoming Test series and the one-day series."
It remains unclear who Broad will replace in the Nottinghamshire team with Darren Pattinson, Luke Fletcher, Andre Adams and Charlie Shreck all present in a 13-man squad.
Adams and Fletcher will expect to feature having been left out of the Notts team that slipped to a Friends Life t20 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday although Charlie Shreck has also been preserved for four day cricket. Darren Pattinson may be left out having emerged as the mainstay of the FLt20 seam attack.
Newell will keep faith with a top five featuring Alex Hales, Neil Edwards, Riki Wessels, Samit Patel and Adam Voges. Tamim Iqbal is not being considered for selection but will play in Friday's match against Worcestershire Royals at Trent Bridge.
