Graeme Swann faces two weeks on the sidelines before taking his place alongside Nottinghamshire teammate Stuart Broad in England’s squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Broad will return to Australia on Saturday after making positive strides in his recovery from a torn stomach muscle but isn’t expected to feature in the on-going ODI series in Australia.

"Graeme got hit and his knee is badly bruised and quite painful so he won't be playing in the next game and might have to rest for 10 days to two weeks,” said England team Director Andy Flower.

"We don't anticipate Broad playing in the one day series but it's better for him to be out here with us rather than in the middle of an English winter back home."

Samit Patel made the provisional 30-man squad but has been left out of the final 15 for England’s campaign in India which begins with a group match against the Netherlands on Saturday 22nd February.

Matt Prior’s selection ahead of Steven Davies is the biggest surprise in an otherwise routine selection.
