Day 2 of 3 at Denby
Notts 179 & 345-9 dec Derbys 188 & 23-0
Derbyshire require a further 314 to win

The second day of this match belonged entirely to Notts as they bowled the home side out within the first hour of the day and then dominated the home attack to set them a testing target.

Derby lost their last four wickets for just 41 runs with Ben Phillips finishing with 5-35 as he dismissed Poynton (63), Needham (8) and Sherriff (2)

Brett Hutton accounted for Burgoyne who was caught by Phillips for 11.

Notts trailed by 9 as they started their innings and it was soon obvious that they had decided that to attack was the best way as Edwards and Patel lay about the bowling in the 70 minutes to the lunch interval. Patel had 45 and Edwards 38 at the break as Notts lunched on 85-0

There appears to be avid interest amongst the compilers of the website as to the fare served to players for lunch. Suffice to say that jacket potatoes, chilli con carne, pizza, strawberries, fruit and ice cream were quickly demolished by players and officials alike.

Fortified by that, Akhil Patel reached his 50 and then was immediately dismissed bowled round his legs by Burgoyne. Neil Edwards scored some much needed runs reaching 56 before he was bowled by the same bowler.

After Sam Kelsall (19) was out with the score on 135 all the remaining batsmen contributed as Derby resorted to the spin of Burgoyne and Needham.

Ali Brown (33) and Scott Elstone (29) were followed by Sam Wood who made 52 and Tom Rowe also made 52. Phillips, Weightman and Hutton all succumbed in the cause and the declaration came leaving the hosts with 40 minutes of batting.

Burgoyne took 4-120 and Needham 3-85. Lineker and Borrington survived eleven overs intact scoring ten apiece as Notts eagerly look for the opportunity to make early inroads into both the batting and the lunch tomorrow.
