Nottinghamshire can reflect on two days of solid pre-season preparation having emerged as the dominant force in their two day friendlyt against Surrey at Trent Bridge.

The hosts scored 444 runs punctuated by Riki Wessels 120*, Edwards’ 88, and Mullaney’s 65 having dismissed Surrey for 109 on the first day.

Surrey showed more resolve in their second innings although Chris Schofield was the only player to surpass fifty as he hit four consecutive sixes off Samit Patel. Patel took  a return catch in his next over to end Schofield’s stand on 77.

Luke Fletcher took 3-38 in the second innings to further his prospects of starting the season in Nottinghamshire’s front-up bowling attack.

Andy Carter’s match figures of 6-64 add validity to his claim for a place and Nottinghamshire will head to Oxford on Saturday with Mark Wagh, Adam Voges and Darren Pattinson all set for inclusion.
