Notts bowler Stuart Broad was England’s standout performer in the opening exchanges of the three-day tour match against Western Australia.

Broad took three wickets, including two in two balls in his first over, before the hosts declared on 242-8.

Nottinghamshire’s Adam Voges top scored with 72 before he was run out by Paul Collingwood’s direct hit.

Graeme Swann took a single wicket, as did James Anderson, Steven Finn and Collingwood.

England will resume on day two having reached 10-1 in reply after Alistair Cook fell for just five runs.
