Match Report | 12th May 2010

Second Eleven Trophy
Notts 2nd XI (243-4) beat MCCYC (237) by 6 wickets

Graeme White made a match winning all-round contribution with three wickets and 104 runs as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI beat MCC Young Cricketers at Caythorpe.

At 58-4 chasing 238 to win Notts were in a precarious position after 16 overs having lost Matthew Wood (18), Akhil Patel (9), Alex Hales (9) and Sam Kelsall (5).

However not for the first time this season they were thankful for a resolute stand of 185 for the 5th wicket between Graeme White and Scott Elstone.

White laid the early foundation for the recovery in reaching his 50 in 59 balls. Scott Elstone then attacked and made his half century facing 53 balls. With the stand reaching 150 the MCCYC began to lose heart as the pair started to accumulate an even faster rate and a heavy squall passed over the ground.

With an end in site the umpires decided to stay on the field and White fittingly closed the game with a six to bring up his 100, finishing on 104 with eleven fours and three sixes, Scott Elstone was unbeaten with 76 that included six fours.

Earlier on winning the toss and asking the visitors to bat Andrew Carter took two early wickets to leave the visitors on 25-2. Graeme White bowled tidily enough with his ten overs bringing him 3-37. However the support bowling, apart from Jake Ball 3-33, looked ragged. Young Dan Cumming came in for some severe punishment in his initial spell but recovered his poise in his second five over spell.

From 189-5, good bowling by Carter and Ball who took three wickets in nine balls to finish the innings. Carter returned figures of 4-27 retrieved the position
