Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club members will be told that the club recorded a pre-tax deficit of £148,761 in the last financial year at February’s Annual General Meeting.
This compares to a pre-tax surplus of £148,426 in the previous year with the difference attributed to the absence of a Test match at Trent Bridge in 2009.
The successful hosting of the ICC World Twenty20 had significantly undercut the anticipated seven-figure loss which had been planned for, but Chief Executive Derek Brewer said that the figures underlined the need to ensure that Test cricket prospered at Trent Bridge.
"I think every single business has been hit by the recession, there are absolutely no exceptions to that," said Brewer.
"But in our case it was the Test match that has led to this loss. Staging the ICC World Twenty20 mitigated the loss, but it was an entirely different financial model.
"We always knew back in 2003 when we signed a staging agreement with the ECB that we wouldn't have a Test match in 2009. We planned for that eventuality and, overall, the result is better than we have been forecasting.
"It won't be easy in 2010 in the current climate, but we have got a Test and one-day international and we are expecting to return to profit.
"As usual, we will explain our position fully to members at the AGM in February."
Trent Bridge will host a Test against Pakistan and a One Day International against Bangladesh in July and an invitation to tender for the right to host an Ashes Test in 2013 is expected imminently.
The Annual General Meeting takes place on Monday 22 February at County Hall and is open to all club members.
