Graeme Swann has signed a new two year contract with Nottinghamshire that commits him to the club until the end of the 2012 season.

Swann has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence since establishing himself in the Test side and was a major contributor to England’s success in the Ashes and the ICC World Twenty20.

He has taken 97 wickets in 22 Tests and is England’s reining player of the year.

“Our dressing room is a better place for having him around and I’m pleased that he sees his future at Trent Bridge.” - Mick Newell

“Six years ago I felt that Graeme was the best one day bowler in the country but he wasn’t fulfilling his potential,” said Newell who signed the off-spinner from Northants in 2005.

“It was clear that he always had the talent and now he’s applied it and surpassed my expectations with his achievements over the past two years.

“I fully expect him to remain centrally contracted by England during the term of this new deal but he is a player that every county would want on their books and I’m sure he’ll continue to make positive contributions for us whenever he’s available.

“Our dressing room is a better place for having him around and I’m pleased that he sees his future at Trent Bridge.”

Swann took two wickets in his solitary LV= County Championship appearance against Warwickshire this season and appeared for Notts in Saturday’s Friends Provident t20 semi-final against Somerset.
