Nottinghamshire have confirmed that Ryan Sidebottom will leave the club at the end of the season after the two parties failed to agree terms on a new contract.

Keen to secure a three-year deal, Sidebottom rejected Nottinghamshire’s offers of an unconditional two-year contract and a performance related three-year contract and will now consider multiple offers from other counties.

"I have had a truly fantastic time with Nottinghamshire but all good things come to an end," said Sidebottom.

“I will remember my time at Nottinghamshire with great fondness and I thank them for all their support.

"We have had some great successes and I feel that during my time at Trent Bridge I have developed into a significantly improved player.

“I am disappointed to be leaving such a brilliant bunch of lads but there are exciting new challenges ahead."

Sidebottom enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence after joining Notts from Yorkshire in 2004 and reignited his international career during his tenure at Trent Bridge.

He has taken 79 wickets in 24 Tests and was a key component of the England team that won the ICC World Twenty20 in May.

“Ryan has made an exceptional contribution during his time here and I’m disappointed to be losing him,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“The stumbling block wasn’t money but the length of the contract on offer.

“There is no doubt in my mind that he will make a big contribution at his next club and I’m grateful that he has given us exceptional service throughout the best years of his career.”

Sidebottom has underlined his commitment to the cause for the remainder of the season with Notts still in contention to win the LV= County Championship and the Clydesdale Bank 40.

"I can assure everyone that my decision will not affect my concentration, desire and passion to ensure we bring more silverware to Trent Bridge in the closing weeks of the season," said Sidebottom.

"Nothing will give me greater pleasure than to end my career at Notts on a winning note and that is exactly what I intend to do."
