Sidebottom enticed Will Jefferson to drag one on to his stumps in a spell that yielded five maidens from his first six overs.
Rain showers meant just 56 overs were played with the visitors closing on 195-5.
Paul Nixon top scored with 74 before retiring whilst Notts bowlers Sidebottom, Darren Pattinson, Luke Fletcher, Steven Mullaney and Graeme White took a wicket apiece.
