Nottinghamshire bowler Stuart Broad has been declared fit to face South Africa in Friday’s third One Day International in Cape Town.
Broad has already missed two Twenty20 Internationals and two ODIs after injuring his shoulder in a warm-up fixture but now hopes to push for a place in the England attack.
"The shoulder's pretty much 100 per cent and it's just about pushing for selection now," he said.
"I don't think injuries are ever a good thing but it has given me a chance to put in a lot of hours at the gym and to get very strong.
"It's been frustrating on a personal note because you always want to play and when you're missing matches it's tough to watch, but it's been great to see how well the boys have played."
Broad has amassed 88 wickets in 55 One Day Internationals and his growing stature in the international game may prevent batsmen attacking him in the manner they did in his early appearances.
"I've played nearly 60 one-dayers now and 22 Tests and I've had batsmen come hard at me, including in the Ashes this year, so I'll just have to wait and see how each batsman plays,” said Broad.
"A lot of teams target young bowlers and we certainly do that to the opposition. If there's a young bowler in the side you look to take them on.
"But that could give me an advantage as well. If they're looking to take you on and it's swinging at all, it brings wickets into the game.”
