Ireland's O’Brien to link up with Notts

Ireland all-rounder Kevin O’Brien could feature in Nottinghamshire’s Twenty20 Cup campaign after agreeing to move to Trent Bridge on a long-term trial.

The 25-year-old is likely to feature against Notts Outlaws on Saturday in the Friends Provident Trophy and will join up with Notts once Ireland’s campaign in the competition comes to an end.

He will be available for all Notts matches whenever his international commitments allow, with Ireland involved in the ICC World Twenty20 in June - including two group games at Trent Bridge - and also due to play England in a One-day International in August.

Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell is keen to see more of what the hard-hitting right-hander has to offer, after first being impressed by O’Brien’s unbeaten 93 at Trent Bridge in last year’s meeting between the two sides.

Said Newell: “If he can develop his bowling, Kevin could become a very capable all-rounder. His batting is already at a good level, and that innings against us certainly stuck in my mind over the winter.

“As it became clearer that we were likely to be without a few of our players this season because of England commitments, I kept on coming back to what he might be able to offer us.

“Ireland have a lot of cricket to play over the next four months but we will fit in around those international commitments. It’s an open-ended trial and Kevin will be available to play in all our fixtures when he’s with us.”

Notts start their Twenty20 Cup campaign on Monday May 25 against Durham Dynamos. Advance tickets for the 2.30pm start cost £12.00 for adults, £7 for juniors and OAPs, with a family ticket for two adults and two children costing £31.

Seats on the day cost £15 for adults, £8 for juniors and OAPs, and family tickets available for £38.00.

Tickets can be bought by calling the Trent Bridge Ticket Office on 0870 168 8888 or by clicking here.
