Notts, 45-6 overnight, recovered well to secure a draw on the final day of their Second XI Championship match against MCC Young Cricketers thanks to a career-best 66 not out from paceman Mark Footitt.

Coming to the wicket with the score at 75-8, Footitt scored 30 in a ninth wicket partnership of 41 with Adam Shepherd and then added a further 59 with Charlie Shreck, who scored an invaluable 15 and was out trying for a big hit in the over when a declaration was to have been made. Footitt reached his 50 in 52 balls with five fours and his next three scoring shots were all boundaries prior to the final wicket falling.

His 66 beat his previous best of 57 against Somerset in 2006. Notts were dismissed for 175, leaving the home team to chase 265 to win from 57 overs.

On what was now a slow pitch, Shreck and Footitt bowled with great effort to make inroads into the MCCYC's batting. Two early wickets from Shreck reduced the home team to 37-2 and then Jason Brown captured a third when Will Jefferson took a low catch at first slip.

When Brown had captain Michael Richardson out lbw with the score at 95 there were slight hopes of victory but a fifth wicket stand of 62 by Ned Eckersley (42 not out) and Reg Querl (50), who fell to Brown with 10 overs remaining, proved enough to deny Notts and the match was drawn.

Brown had figures of 3-28 from 16 overs and Shreck recorded 2-39 from 13 overs. Notts took 12 points from the game.
