Voges call up leaves door open for Hussey

Director of Cricket Mick Newell has not ruled out a return to Trent Bridge for Nottinghamshire’s former overseas star David Hussey after fellow Australian Adam Voges was called up for his country’s A team to play Pakistan.
Voges will be vice-captain for the mini-series which runs from June 26 to July 18, meaning he will miss at least two Twenty20 Cup games as well as Championship fixtures against Lancashire and Durham.
But Newell will only bring in a short-term replacement if he can find a player who will settle into the team straight away by being familiar with the set-up in the Notts dressing room.
That throws open the possibility of a return for fans favourite David Hussey, as the ICC World Twenty20 will have already finished and the hard-hitting right-hander has not been selected for Australia’s Ashes squad.
Said Newell: “The likeliest option for us is to try and find someone who we know and who knows us - and Huss comes under that category.
“Over the course of the next three weeks we will be looking to speak to him to see what can be arranged. But it’s a relatively short period during which Adam’s away, so if we can’t find someone we know, we will probably stick with our options within the squad.”
Adam Voges will be vice-captain for Australia A later this month
