Wickets Tumble At Worksop College

Featured News | 23rd July 2009

The only sound to disturb the serenity of the delightful Worksop College ground was the clatter of wickets as both sides were dismissed on the first day of Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven Championship game against Worcestershire.

On a dampish pitch, kept fresh by three rain stoppages during the day, some good seam bowling aided by poor batting kept the scorers on their toes.

Notts asked the visitors to bat and Andy Carter induced an early collapse, capturing three wickets in his first two overs, as Worcester went to 8-3.

They were 81-7 at lunch and were all out shortly afterwards for 112 with Carter taking his season tally to 39 wickets with 5-46. Captain Charlie Shreck took 2-27.

Notts were pleased with their morning's work but their grip on the game was shattered by Imran Arif who took 6-37 as they were dismissed for 95.

Sam Kelsall was the only batsman to show any determination with a stubborn 27 not out, Alex Hales 18 and Scott Newman 16 the only others to reach double figures.

There were still seventeen overs remaining for the day as Worcester set off on their second innings. The opening pair were still together at the close of play at 7.52pm as the batting conditions seemed to ease with the score at 50-0.
