Notts ended their Championship season in disappointing fashion going down to an innings defeat against Lancashire at Liverpool.
Bilal Shafayat put Lancashire in to bat on winning the toss and at 205 -8 must have been fairly satisfied with the sides progress, only Mullaney with 79 making a score.
However Tom Hardman (58) and Steve Kerrigan (52) added 80 for the ninth wicket and Kerrigan along with Caunce put on a further 40 as the Notts bowling tailed away leaving Lancs on 325.
Andrew Carter took his season's tally to 54 with 4-80 and Paul Franks with 3-35 from 17 overs bowled well.
Notts though performed poorly with the bat and were dismissed for 62 for the second day running. Gary Montgomery, their nemesis in the Second Eleven Trophy game 24 hours earlier, took 7-29 with three wickets in his first over. Jake Ball scored 30 with six boundaries.
Notts fared better in their second innings with Scott Elstone batting sensibly for over two hours for 44 and Jake Ball again batting well for 31 as Notts were dismissed after lunch for 172 giving Lancashire victory by an innings and 91 runs
Second eleven manager & coach Wayne Noon said how disappointed he was in the teams performance over the past three days in what has been an otherwise successful season .
Notts still remain at the top of the Championship table but a win in this game could have given them a chance of qualifying for the final play off. Lancashire , Yorkshire & Durham having games in hand.
