Notts all-rounder Samit Patel says that England must make home advantage pay in the ICC World Twenty20 in June.
Having been named in a provisional 30, Patel will learn on Friday whether he has made the cut for the tournament when England finalise their 15-man squad.
If selected, he could feature in England’s warm-up fixture against Scotland at Trent Bridge on Tuesday 2 June. England will return to Trent Bridge to face South Africa in a Super Eights fixture on Thursday 11 June if, as expected, both teams qualify from their groups.
Tickets for all tournament fixtures at Trent Bridge are on sale now from the tournament ticket hotline (08448472020) and by clicking here.
“I hope to be involved because I’ve had some success in Twenty20 cricket and I want to earn a regular place in the England team,” said Samit.
“The ICC World Twenty20 is a prestigious competition and the warm-up game against Scotland at Trent Bridge will give England a chance to show supporters what we’re all about.
“It’s an exciting form of the game but essentially it’s about striking cricket balls and taking wickets and we’re blessed with specialist players and good all-rounders who can do that consistently.
“Home advantage will be an important factor and we have to make the most of it because the world’s strongest teams will be competing and there will be no easy games.
“England can go into it feeling confident but India are the holders, Australia are strong and you can never write off South Africa.”
Nottinghamshire trio Grame Swann, Stuart Broad and Ryan Sidebottom could also be included in England's tournament 15.
