Wicket-keeping captain Chris Read has been awarded a benefit season in 2009 after 11 years with Nottinghamshire.

Read, 30, has played in 15 Test matches for England and was a key member of Nottinghamshire’s County Championship winning side in 2005.

“Being awarded a benefit year is a huge privilege,” said Read, who captained Notts to a second-place finish in Division One of the LV County Championship this season.

“Captaining Notts has been a challenging but brilliant experience and after being part of the club for so long, I am looking forward to challenging for honours next season.

“There is plenty of life left in me and I want to win trophies with Notts next year and take an active role in making arrangements for my benefit season.”

Nottinghamshire Chairman Peter Wright praised Read’s continued commitment to the club.

“Chris has proved to be a worthy captain and I have no doubt that he will be even stronger for the experience that he has gained this season,” said Peter.

“He is an exceptional wicket keeper and is thoroughly deserving of a benefit season with Notts.”
