Charlie Shreck ended Michael Yardy’s charmed innings with a well taken return catch as Notts bowled out Sussex for 277 and 259 on day three at Trent Bridge.
Chris Read was convinced that he had caught Yardy behind last night and the Sussex number three and was dropped before Shreck made one stick.
Murray Goodwin was caught behind by Chris Read but Sussex captain Matt Prior, who scored a century in the first innings, proved dangerous again.
He reached 64 before he was bowled by Graeme Swann to end the innings but drops in the field could prove costly as Notts chase a second innings target of 286 for victory.
Early dismissals of Will Jefferson and Matt Wood left Notts on 11-2.
“I thought Will and Matt were a bit unlucky but that seems to be the way it’s going for our batsmen at the moment,” said Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“Chris Read and Graeme Swann will give us a fighting chance and there’s Mark Ealham and Paul Franks to come but it’s a long shot for us now.
“The dropped catches were a disappointment because it’s something that we pride ourselves on but we’ll continue to work on that make improvements.”
Notts finished the day 114-5, 172 runs short of victory.
