Scorecard

Notts held off a late Irish rally to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Friends Provident Trophy.

Luke Fletcher took 2-41 as the Outlaws defended a lead of 241 runs, Ireland finishing just short on 240, helped by a fine 93 from Kevin O’Brien.

The visitors had required 46 runs from the final 30 balls but a tight final over from Darren Pattinson saw Notts home.

Ireland won the toss and put Notts into bat and after early losses, a solid partnership between Adam Voges and Samit Patel put the Outlaws back on track.

Will Jefferson was bowled second ball for 0 by West Indies pace man Ravi Rampaul who also had Matt Wood and Mark Waugh caught to leave Notts 22-3.

But Voges and Patel struck a 100 partnership to bring up 124-3 after 33 overs.

Thinus Fourie missed the simplest of opportunities to catch Patel on 65, falling to the ground in disbelief after misjudging a high hanging swipe, but Paul Stirling held him off Gary Kidd for 75.

Voges reached 82 before being caught by Rampaul after skying a full-toss but Chris Read maintained the momentum, hitting a huge six to the 15th row of the new stand on his way to an unbeaten 53.

Notts face Leicestershire Foxes at Oakham on Wednesday knowing that a win will secure a home draw in the quarter-finals.
