Mick Newell hopes to make amends for Monday’s Twenty20 Cup defeat against Derbyshire when Leicestershire Foxes visit Trent Bridge this evening (play commences 5.30pm).

The Outlaws’ Director of Cricket saw yesterday’s game against Durham fall victim to persistent rain but with bright weather forecast this evening, Notts will be looking to get back on track.

“We would always prefer for the game to be played but the rain never stopped and there never seemed to be any prospect of getting started,” said Newell.

“Our head-to-head record with Durham means that it perhaps favours us that there was no result but it’s a tight group and I think we’ll need to win at least four of our six games to progress to the quarter-finals.

“We’re one of two teams in the group that have only lost one game and we’ve got a game in hand against the sides that are above us so it’s in our hands.”

Leicestershire Foxes are bottom of the Northern Division having lost all four of their fixtures but have an enviable record in the Twenty20 Cup.

They reached the semi-finals in 2003 and 2005 and were crowned champions in 2004 and 2006.

“Leicestershire possess some excellent batsmen in Ackerman, Nixon and Dipenaar and they have some good spinners as well,” he said.

“They will provide tough opposition and it’s another game against local rivals that we’re keen to come out on top.”

Newell will select his side from an unchanged squad with Chris Read, Chris Cairns, Andre Adams and Adam Voges all expected to play a part.
