Trent Bridge physio Mike Brownlow hopes to help the GB Short Track Speed Skating team to build on a year of success after they were named BBC East Midlands Sports Team of the Year.

The skaters beat off competition from fellow nominees Beeston Hockey Club and Nottingham Rugby Club to win the award and will now focus on World Cup meetings in Beijing and Nagano.

Mike continues to combine his work at the Trent Bridge Physio Clinic with his role as part of the skaters’ medical team and hopes to board the plane for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

“The award was great recognition after a successful year for the team and we’re hopeful that the skaters will peak at the right time and qualify for Vancouver,” said Mike.

“The team have won medals at international competitions and there is a genuine belief that we can continue to improve.”

Mike says that his secondment work with the team has helped to aid his professional development and the experience of the clinic staff in working with sportsmen ensures that private clients are given the best possible care.

“We’re working with elite athletes so it’s important that I stay on top of medical developments and offer the latest treatments,” said Mike.

“We do lots of work to assist the athletes with injury prevention as well as helping them to recover from injury. We have had a few challenges in the medical team but we were particularly pleased to see Sarah Lindsay return to competition recently following a serious lower back injury".”

The Trent Bridge Physio Clinic is located on the ground floor of the Radcliffe Road complex and is open Monday to Saturday 9am – 5pm.

Sports rehabilitation, back and neck pain relief and acupuncture are offered as well as Sports Massage and Beauty Therapy. To book an appointment email sheila.ball@nottsccc.co.uk or call 0115 9823038.
