Hussey call-up gives Voges longer chance

General News | 1st April 2008

Mick Newell has confirmed that Western Australia batsman Adam Voges will act as Nottinghamshire’s overseas player for most of the season following David Hussey’s call-up for Australia.

Hussey, 30, has been selected in a 14-man squad to tour the West Indies. The Victorian right-hander is only involved for the limited overs section of the tour, which involves a Twenty20 international and five One-day Internationals.

With that series beginning on June 20 and ending on July 6, Hussey only had a small window to play for Notts in-between the Indian Premier League in any case, and Director of Cricket Newell will instead look to Voges to fill the gap until July.

Said Newell: “The way I’m looking at it is that Voges will be our overseas player for the season and Hussey will play whenever he’s available.

“Bearing in mind that Australia have other international commitments later this summer, Huss may well be involved in those as well.

“But we had factored that into our agreement with Voges and that means he will be around for most of the season.”
