Only winter signing Rob Ferley emerged with any credit as he claimed 5-59 in Derbyshire’s first innings, but Notts were then bowled out twice in a day at Belper Meadows, and Noon confessed he was ‘extremely disappointed.’

He said: “That wasn’t a Notts performance and it wasn’t good enough. The wicket was very poor but you don’t lose 20 wickets in a day just because of the pitch.

“Derbyshire’s overseas batsman Travis Birt was coming back from injury and got a big hundred, but we still let them get 100 too many.

“Gareth Clough stuck to the task with the ball and Rob bowled very well, but Josh Mierkalns and Mark Footitt were way off the pace and know they need to improve.”
