Sidebottom gets ODI call-up

General News | 22nd June 2007

Ryan Sidebottom’s dream summer continued when he was named in England’s one-day squad to take on the West Indies in the NatWest Series.

The 29-year-old, who claimed 16 wickets in three matches on his comeback to Test cricket, is in a new-look 14-man squad for two Twenty20 games and three ODIs.

And if Sidebottom proves his worth, he could take the first step towards playing in the next World Cup.

England chairman of selectors David Graveney said: “We were keen to identify the best way for the team to play in the one-day game, pick players who can perform certain roles and keep one eye on the need to build towards the World Cup in 2011.”

Sidebottom’s selection means he will not be able to take part in the Outlaws Twenty20 Cup campaign.

But Nottinghamshire fans will get the chance to welcome Sidebottom back to Trent Bridge for the sold-out ODI on Saturday July 7.
