Notts sign Hogg on loan

Nottinghamshire have responded positively to their worrying injury list by signing Lancashire seamer Kyle Hogg on a month’s loan.

Hogg, who is 24, arrives in Nottingham this week and will make his debut on Friday, when Notts start a Championship fixture against Gloucestershire at Trent Bridge.

With Charlie Shreck, AJ Harris, Paul Franks and Mark Footitt currently out of action and Ryan Sidebottom committed to England duty, Mick Newell believed it was important to find immediate cover to help keep Notts on track for promotion.

Said the Director of Cricket: “I’m delighted to have Kyle on board and it’s a great opportunity for him to play some first-class cricket and prove a point.

“He’s a talented young seamer who has been struggling to claim a regular place in a strong Lancashire team.

“We have been keeping an eye on him for some time and although he will only be with us for a month initially, who knows where it might lead.”

Birmingham born Hogg, the son of a former Lancashire and Warwickshire player, is also the grandson of the legendary West Indies spinner Sonny Ramadhin.

He made his debut for Lancashire in 2001 but injuries and illness – including a mystery bug picked up during an England Under-19 tour of Sri Lanka – hindered his progress.

He has always been regarded as a player with considerable potential and it seemed he had finally made the breakthrough last season when he regularly opened the bowling in Lancashire’s one-day matches.

Ironically, Notts only other temporary signing since the loan system was introduced was Hogg’s team-mate Oliver Newby, who figured in the Championship triumph two years ago.
