A hamstring injury has forced opener Will Jefferson to pull out of the prestigious season curtain-raiser between the MCC and county champions Sussex this weekend.

The 6ft 10ins batsman had been named in the MCC squad after a successful winter tour of Bangladesh with England A, but hasn’t recovered from the injury picked up during Notts pre-season trip to Portugal.

He said: “I pulled the hamstring during a sprint session in Portugal and unfortunately it hasn’t come along enough for me to play.

“I’m disappointed to miss out as it’s a game that includes plenty of England internationals and team-mates from the winter tour.

“My aim now is to rest and make sure I’m fit for the opening Championship fixture against Leicestershire next week.”
