The 20-year-old is set to make his first appearance in the Championship since his debut in September 2003, where he scored 55 against Lancashire at Trent Bridge and wants to maintain his good start to the season.

He said: "I've been pleased to get so many opportunities in one-day cricket and I'm just trying to produce some consistent performances.

"If I keep on doing what I'm asked to do then I hope I'll keep my place on the team. From all accounts I'm impressing the right people in the one-day matches and now I need to transfer that to Championship cricket.

"I've been working hard on getting the basics right by playing straight and doing all the things that Mick Newell and Paul Johnson have been talking to me about.

"The bowling has been going well too as I've been bowling pretty full and straight and making the batsmen play to the fields that have been set for me.

"We're doing well in the Championship and believe we can beat anyone. Kent are a strong side but I'm looking forward to playing my part in another win."
