Flintoff will be lining up for the home side at Old Trafford and Smith has been working out how to stop the big-hitting England all-rounder.

He said: "Depending on when you're bowling at him your tactics have to change.

"I always look at bowling in one-day games as a damage limitation exercise in any case but particularly with Flintoff.

"You have to bowl to your fielders and hope things go your way. In the first 15 overs it's a bit of a gamble but you're as likely to get him out as get smashed all over the park.

"The important thing is not to let him get used to your pace as a bowler. What may help us is that he is only just back from his ankle surgery. His timing will hopefully be a little bit out and he might make a mistake.

"If it's at the death - well, if you get the short straw of bowling to him at that stage of the innings then you have to focus on doing your own job. You just need to keep trying the yorkers and slower balls and hope he does something silly.

"But it would be a mistake to just focus on one man. If we do our jobs then we can certainly beat them and get our one-day season going."

Injury news:
Paul Franks is a major doubt for both the Bank Holiday weekend fixtures with a rib injury suffered in the field on the final day against Sussex.

Franks will have a fitness test on Sunday morning before the game, with Gareth Clough ready to step in.

AJ Harris is close to a return from his groin strain but will not be risked in the weekend's fixtures.

Squad:
Fleming (cap), Swann, Gallian, Singh, Warren, Hussey, Read (wkt), Ealham, Franks, Clough, Sidebottom, Smith.
