Nottinghamshire First Class Debut – 27 March 2011 v MCC (Abu Dhabi)

An unfortunate injury to Ben Phillips opened the door for Brett Hutton to make an unexpected first class debut at the start of the 2011 season. Called up at short notice to replace the former Somerset man on Nottinghamshire’s trip to Abu Dhabi to face the MCC, his ability to swing the pink Kookaburra ball in practice earned him a starting place.

Despite not taking a wicket in the 18 overs he bowled, Brett didn't look over-awed by the experience and will be keen to appear at that level again soon.

That opportunity didn’t materialise last summer as Brett was away competing for England in the Under-19 World Cup in Australia.

Brett’s medium-fast bowling and aggressive lower order hitting have greatly encouraged the Notts coaching staff and in 2013 he made his second first class appearance, for Somerset’s visit to Trent Bridge. He mustered 62 runs across the two innings batting from number nine, before having captain Marcus Trescothick caught to give him a memorable first scalp.

After a winter in Australia and a preseason spent amongst the professional squad, expect Hutton to push on and make an impression on the first team.
